Script editor overview
The Scenaloom script editor is a structured screenplay editor: every line is a typed element, which is what keeps formatting, page counts, scene lists and statistics accurate. Around the page sit a header, a format bar, a story map and the Writing panel.
The editor at a glance
- Header: save status, Go to scene…, Scene numbers, the Script and Cover tabs, who is here now, Undo and Redo, comments, Find and replace (Mod+F), add a comment, keyboard shortcuts (?), the tool panel toggle and Share.
- Format bar: the element of the current line, bold, italic and underline, Dual dialogue on a speech, your daily word goal, the formatting check, and the page you are on with what Enter and Tab will make next.
- Story map: a strip above the script that marks your beats at their target pages and your target length. Click a beat to jump to its page.
- Writing panel on the right, with Info, Team and Cards tabs.
Elements and the toolbar
Scene heading, action, character, parenthetical, dialogue and transition cover most pages. Shot lines carry camera direction such as CLOSE ON THE LETTER, subtitle lines carry on-screen text, and comment lines hold notes for you and your collaborators. Two speeches can sit side by side as dual dialogue (Mod+D). See Formatting screenplay text for every key.
The Writing panel
- Info: Daily goal, AI usage this month, collaborators, Pagination (Minimal, Paged or Speed), Format (Hollywood or Asian), Display (text size, line spacing, scene numbers on or off) and the writing modes.
- Team: invite people and manage access without leaving the script.
- Cards: AI writing cards from this episode, all episodes or the ones you pinned, so you can insert or copy a version you didn't apply.
- Writing progress (the chart icon): live counts of scenes, words, characters and locations.
Focus, Typewriter and Revision modes
- Focus dims every line except the one you are on and hides the story map.
- Typewriter keeps the line you are typing in the middle of the screen.
- Revision marks the lines that changed since a saved version. When there are several, pick the version to compare with in the header.
Formatting check and daily goal
When the script has a clear formatting slip, the format bar shows Formatting to check. Open it for a list of problems, each linked to its line: a character cue with no dialogue after it, dialogue with no cue before it, an empty scene heading, or a character cue capitalized differently elsewhere in the script, such as MAYA and Maya. It lists these slips only and makes no judgment about style.
Set a number of words under Info › Daily goal and the format bar shows your progress, such as Today 320/500. The goal is kept on this device, for this project.
Saving and the Free plan
The script saves automatically, and Mod+Enter saves at once. If the connection drops, changes are kept on this device and saved when it returns, so keep the tab open. On the Free plan a script holds 400 lines; lines past that point stop growing until you upgrade.
