Scene board
The scene board shows every scene in your script as a card, and the scene list shows the same scenes as a sortable table. Both are read from the scene headings in the draft, so they always match it. Novel projects have a story canvas instead.
Where scenes come from
Write a scene heading (INT. or EXT.) and its scene appears, with nothing to enter by hand. Add scene on the board adds a new heading at the end of the script. Each card shows the scene's number, heading and cast, its count of characters, lines and pages, and your description.
Scene board
Open Scenes in the episode's writing views and choose Cards. The board is a canvas you can arrange however you think:
- Move around by dragging the background, scrolling, or holding Space and dragging. Zoom with Mod and scroll, Mod+= and Mod+−, or a pinch; Mod+0 or Shift+1 fits the board.
- Move a card by dragging it, or with the arrow keys on a focused card (Shift for bigger steps). Mod+Z undoes a move, and Enter opens the scene.
- Arrange lays every card out in a grid in script order and fits the view.
- Show script order draws a faint line through the cards in the order the script runs through them, wherever you have placed them.
- Connect scenes: pick one scene, then another, to draw a plot link with an optional label — a setup and its payoff, or a thread that runs between them.
- Show scenes with a character filters the board to one character's scenes, and Comments opens notes about the board.
Placing cards on the board doesn't change the script; the board is a thinking space. To change the order of scenes in the script, use the scene list.
Edit a scene
Click a card to open its panel: number, length, who speaks and how much, a description, art requirements (set, props, wardrobe, lighting), a scene still you can generate, Open in script and Delete scene. Notes belong to the scene's heading, so they follow it when scenes move. Deleting a scene asks first and can be undone right after.
Scene list and export
Choose Scene List for a table with columns for INT/EXT, location, time, characters, lines, pages and notes. Display chooses the columns, sorts the rows and turns on compact rows. Move a scene up or down to reorder it in the script; reordering is off while the list is sorted. The download icon exports the list as a Scene Sheet in CSV, PDF, Word, plain text or Markdown.
Story canvas in novel projects
Script projects plan scenes on the scene board. A novel project has a story canvas, opened from Canvas under Story bible in the project's left rail: add notes, labels, characters and chapters as cards, then link what belongs together.
- Double-click a card to write on it; Delete removes the selected cards.
- Use a card's dot to link it to another card, and click a link to remove it.
- Shift-click to select several cards and move them together, or Shift-drag across empty space to select an area. Labels work as headings for groups of cards.
- Mod+Z undoes, Mod+D duplicates, Mod+A selects all and Mod+0 fits the board.
