Characters, locations and props
Scenaloom builds your character list and location list from the script: every character cue becomes a character and every scene heading's location becomes a location, with no data entry. Props you add by hand. Each one gets a page with details for writing and for production.
Where entities come from
- Characters come from cues; their cards show how many scenes and lines of dialogue they have.
- Locations come from scene headings.
- Props, and any extra characters or locations, are added with New. Each entity shows its source: From script or Manual.
- In the editor, Enter in the character or location picker adds a new one on the spot.
Character pages and relationships
Open a character to edit pronouns, other names, appearance and costume, personality, background, goals and motivation, how they speak, age, gender, occupation and the color of their avatar. The page also lists the scenes in this episode that use them and how many other episodes do.
- Overview shows the cast as a canvas, cards or a list. On the canvas, drag cards to group your cast by family, faction or storyline.
- Relationships is a graph of labeled relationships; drag a character to rearrange it.
- Casting is a casting sheet for role, age and other production details (script projects).
- Generate portrait draws from the appearance, bio, age and role you wrote; Generate look sheet draws them head to toe from the front, side and back and keeps the portrait's face. Both use credits, with the cost shown first. You can also upload an image or use an image link.
Locations and props
A location page holds a description, an address, contact and rental details — phone, email, rent, deposit, availability and shooting hours — and notes. Scout Sheet tracks scouting status (Pending, Scouted, Approved or Rejected), and Relationships connects parent and child spaces, such as a house and its kitchen. Generate scouting image draws from the description and address. Props have their own list and pages.
Renaming and duplicates
Because the script uses a character's or location's name, renaming it on its page rewrites every cue and scene heading that uses it, in every episode, and the reels that cast it. If you add a name that already exists, Scenaloom points you to the existing one instead of creating a duplicate. When one character's cue is capitalized two ways, such as MAYA and Maya, the formatting check lists it; use Find and replace in the script to settle on one form. Two different spellings, such as MARY and MARIE, read as two characters, so check the cast list for those.
Deleting a character also removes their details, casting row and relationships, and their place on every canvas, so Scenaloom asks first.
Export CSV sheets
From Export, choose Casting Sheet, Location Sheet or Prop Sheet and pick the columns. A casting sheet can carry name, role, gender, age, occupation, description, scenes, lines and a picture link; a location sheet carries address, scout status, owner, phone, rent and deposit. CSV files are UTF-8 and open in Excel or Google Sheets.
