Connect Scenaloom to AI apps: the screenwriting MCP server
Scenaloom's screenwriting MCP server connects your projects to the AI apps you already use. Add https://scenaloom.com/mcp to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or VS Code, sign in to Scenaloom once and approve what the app may do. The app can then read your screenplays, series and novels, propose edits you review before they land, and leave notes, without copying a script into a chat window.

What the screenwriting MCP server can do
- Read: list your projects, read an episode block by block or one scene at a time, read a novel chapter, and look up characters, locations, props, beats, outlines and comments.
- Edit: propose changes to a script or a chapter, show you each change as before and after, and apply it only when you agree. Applied edits merge with anyone writing at the same moment, appear in version history and can be undone.
- Comment: leave notes anchored to a line, marked with the app that wrote them, and resolve notes.
- Generate: price a character portrait, storyboard frame or other generation, and start it only after you confirm the credits.
Because the app works on the real project instead of a pasted copy, this AI screenwriting assistant integration keeps your scenes, characters and history in one place. The tools reference lists every tool. For better results in Claude, add the Scenaloom Agent Skill, which teaches the model how to work on a Claude screenplay safely: read first, propose, then apply.
Claude (claude.ai, Desktop and mobile)
- In claude.ai, open Customize, then Connectors.
- Choose Add, then Add custom connector. Name it Scenaloom and paste https://scenaloom.com/mcp as the URL.
- Choose Continue, then sign in to Scenaloom and approve the permissions on the consent screen.
- In a chat, open the + menu, choose Connectors and switch Scenaloom on. The connector also works in Claude Desktop and the mobile apps.
On Team and Enterprise plans an owner adds the connector once under Organization settings, Connectors, and each member then connects with their own Scenaloom account. Free Claude plans allow one custom connector.
Claude Code
Add the server from your terminal, then sign in from inside Claude Code:
claude mcp add --transport http scenaloom https://scenaloom.com/mcp
Run /mcp in a session, pick scenaloom and choose Authenticate; your browser opens the Scenaloom consent screen. Add --scope user to the command to use Scenaloom in every project. The Agent Skill plugin installs the server and the skill together.
ChatGPT
- In ChatGPT, open Settings, then Apps, then Advanced settings, and turn on Developer mode.
- Choose Create app, name it Scenaloom, paste https://scenaloom.com/mcp as the MCP server URL and pick OAuth as the authentication.
- Sign in to Scenaloom and approve the permissions. In a chat, open the + menu, choose Developer mode and select Scenaloom.
Developer mode is available on paid ChatGPT plans and its menus may move; ChatGPT's own help pages have the current path.
Cursor
Add Scenaloom to ~/.cursor/mcp.json (every project) or .cursor/mcp.json (one project), then open Cursor Settings, MCP, and choose Connect next to scenaloom to sign in:
{
"mcpServers": {
"scenaloom": {
"url": "https://scenaloom.com/mcp"
}
}
}VS Code
Run MCP: Add Server from the Command Palette, choose HTTP and paste the URL, or add this to .vscode/mcp.json. VS Code opens your browser to sign in the first time Copilot uses a Scenaloom tool:
{
"servers": {
"scenaloom": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://scenaloom.com/mcp"
}
}
}Any other app that supports remote MCP servers with OAuth connects the same way: give it the URL and sign in when it asks.
Permissions you approve
When an app connects, Scenaloom shows a consent screen with the app's name and web address and the permissions it asks for. Untick any you don't want.
| Permission | What it allows |
|---|---|
| Read your projects | List and read your projects, scripts, novels, characters, beats, outlines and comments. Always included. |
| Edit scripts and novels | Propose and apply edits, update character and location details, create projects and episodes. |
| Comment | Add and resolve comments. |
| Spend credits | Price and start image, video and audio generations. Never ticked in advance; an app has to ask for it separately. |
An app connects to every project you can open, and it never has more access than your role in a project: on a project where you are a viewer, it can read but not edit, even with the edit permission. Reading and editing work on every plan, Free included. Tools that use Scenaloom AI count against your plan's chat and writing allowance, just as they do in the app.
Edits stay under your control
- Every change is proposed first. The app shows you the before and after, and nothing changes until it applies a proposal you accepted.
- Proposals also appear in the AI panel of the editor, where you can apply them with one click yourself.
- Applied edits merge with collaborators who are typing in the same scene, are saved in version history and can be undone.
- If the script changed after the proposal, Scenaloom refuses to apply it, and the app has to read again and propose again.
- Comments from an app are marked with its name, and collaborators you @mention are notified only after you confirm.
Credits and spending
A connected app can't spend credits unless you allowed it. Before a generation it asks Scenaloom for a quote, tells you the exact cost and your balance, and needs your yes before it starts. Apps that can't show a confirmation can only spend within a daily cap you set on the consent screen or under Connected apps, from 0 (the default, which means no spending) up to 500 credits per 24 hours. Refunds follow the Credits Policy.
See activity and disconnect an app
Open your account settings and find Connected apps. Each app shows when you connected it, when it was last used, its permissions, its daily credit cap and a log of what it did. Choose Disconnect to cut it off at once; its next request fails. Disconnect all apps does the same for every app. Recovering your account, changing your email address or signing out of all devices also disconnects every app. An app's sign-in lasts at most 90 days, after which you approve it again.
Troubleshooting
- The app says it isn't authorized: sign in again from the app (for example /mcp in Claude Code). Disconnected apps and sign-ins older than 90 days need a fresh approval.
- An edit is refused because the script changed: someone edited it after the app read it. Ask the app to read the scene again and propose the change again.
- The app can read but not edit: you didn't grant Edit scripts and novels, or your role in that project is viewer or commenter. To change permissions, disconnect the app under Connected apps and connect it again.
- A generation is refused: the app has no Spend credits permission, your balance is too low, or the daily cap is used up.
- Too many requests: wait the few seconds the app reports and try again.
