A screenplay title page generator lays out the cover page of a script in standard format: the title centered a third of the way down in capitals, "Written by" and the writer's name under it, and contact details at the bottom left. Fill in the fields and save the page as a PDF, or as a Fountain or Final Draft file to put in front of your script.

What goes on a screenplay title page

ElementWhereNotes
TitleCentered, about a third of the way downIn capitals; no other styling needed
CreditUnder the title"Written by", or "Screenplay by" when adapting
Writer's nameUnder the creditWriting partners are joined with "&"
SourceUnder the name, optional"Based on the novel by…" for adaptations
ContactBottom leftName, email, phone; or your agent's details
Draft or dateBottom right, optionalCommon on production drafts; often left off spec scripts

What to leave off

  • Images, logos and colored text. A title page is plain Courier like the rest of the script.
  • Registration or copyright notices on a spec script. Readers see them as a sign of worry, and registration doesn't need to be printed to count.
  • A draft number on a spec script, which tells readers how many times it has been revised.

How to use the screenplay title page generator

  1. Type the title and your name; add "Based on" if the script adapts another work.
  2. Add your contact details, one item per line.
  3. Add a draft or date only if the script is going to a production or a client.
  4. Save as PDF, or download the Fountain or Final Draft version to combine with your script.

To format the script itself, paste it into the screenplay formatter, which can add this title page automatically. The title page guide covers series, adaptations and co-writers in detail.

Questions

What should be on a screenplay title page?

The title in capitals, "Written by" and the writer's name centered on the page, and contact details at the bottom left. Add "Based on" for adaptations and a draft date only for production drafts.

Does a screenplay title page have a page number?

No. The title page isn't numbered, and page 1 of the script doesn't show a number either; numbering starts on page 2.

Should I put the WGA registration number on the title page?

Usually not on a spec script. Registration is a record you keep; it doesn't need to be printed, and many readers prefer a clean page.

How do I credit two writers?

Join a writing team's names with an ampersand (Alex Kim & Sam Ortiz). "and" means the writers worked separately, which matters for credit.
