An AI script generator writes a draft scene from a short description of your story. Type a premise, choose a genre, a format and a length, and this one writes a scene in standard screenplay format: scene headings, action, character cues and dialogue, laid out on the same pages the Scenaloom editor prints. It's free, it needs no sign-up, and you can save the result as a PDF, a Final Draft file or Fountain.
How to use the AI script generator
- Describe the premise in a sentence or two: who it's about, what happens, and where. "A night-ferry captain finds a baby in a parked car mid-crossing" gives the model more to work with than "a drama on a boat".
- Pick a genre and a format: a short film scene, the opening scene of a feature, an episode of a vertical drama, or a YouTube comedy sketch.
- Choose about one page (roughly a minute of screen time) or two to three pages, and select Write my scene.
- Read the draft on the page, then save it, or select Keep writing in Scenaloom to start a project from the same premise.
What each format writes
| Format | What you get | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Short film scene | A self-contained scene with a turn by the end | Short film ideas, film school exercises |
| Opening scene of a feature | The protagonist and the world, ending on a hook | Testing a feature idea before you outline it |
| Vertical drama episode | A cold open, fast exchanges and a cliffhanger | Mobile-first short dramas in 9:16 |
| YouTube comedy sketch | A premise that escalates to a button | Sketch channels and social video |
Why the draft is in real screenplay format
Most AI script generators return plain paragraphs that you have to retype into a screenplay. This one asks the model for Fountain, the plain-text screenplay format, and lays out what comes back with the same engine as the editor: Courier 12 point, the standard margins and one page for about a minute of screen time. So the page count you see is the page count you'd submit, and the Final Draft file opens with every element in place.
Turn the draft into your script
- Rewrite the dialogue in your characters' voices. A generated line is a placeholder for the line only you would write.
- Cut what the scene doesn't need. Models over-explain; a scene usually gets stronger when the subtext stays unsaid.
- Check the turn. Every scene should end in a different place from where it started: a decision, a reveal or a reversal.
- Build the rest yourself: the logline generator helps you pitch the idea, and the beat sheet calculator places the beats of a full script.
Limits, privacy and AI labelling
Each network gets three free drafts a day, which reset at midnight UTC; a draft that fails doesn't count. Your premise is sent to our AI provider to write the scene and isn't saved by Scenaloom. Every draft is labelled as AI-generated on the page and on the title page of the files you save, so anyone who reads it later knows where it came from.
Questions
Is the AI script generator free?
Yes. It's free with no sign-up, up to three drafts a day per network. To write more, the Scenaloom editor is free too, and its AI assistant works on the scenes you write.
What is an AI script generator?
A tool that writes a draft script from a short description. You give it a premise and a few choices such as genre and length, and a language model writes the scene. The result is a first draft to rewrite, not a finished script.
Can it write a whole screenplay?
No. It writes one scene of up to about three pages, because a feature-length script needs structure, a cast and revisions that a single prompt can't give it. Use it to test an idea or break a blank page, then outline and write the script in the editor.
Who owns a script written with the AI script generator?
You can use the draft however you like. Copyright in purely AI-generated text is limited in many countries, including the United States, so the parts you rewrite and add yourself are what make the script yours.
Does it copy existing films?
It's told to invent original characters, names and dialogue and never to reuse existing films or series. Like any model it can echo familiar phrases, so read the draft as a starting point and rewrite it in your own words.
Can it write in other languages?
Yes. Write the premise in the language you want, and the scene comes back in that language, still in screenplay format.
